  • Sprocket Swap

alright so i did my sprocket swap and i remember a lil while ago there was a lot of chatter on here about it, i did a -1 +2 set up where i dropped one front and added 2 in the rear. i rode it for the first time today and HOLY CRAP!!!!! it picks up soo good you hit the throttle and instant responce in terms of power, i was going bout 10mph and i just goosed it and next thing i knew im at the rev limiter in first gear and BANG hit second, then BANG hit third, and BANG hit fourth, im going well over 100 by now and it was great!!! i should have a lot quicker 1/4 mile times this year, any questions let me know, ill keep you posted on the slips for the year.

Where did you order your sprockets from?

I need to get atleat a 48 for my rear, maybe even a 50. The Gixxer 1100 had a 48 tooth, and my current kat is only a 45.

Also thinking of dropping 1 in the front from a 15 to a 14.

I know for sure I need the 48. I suppose I'll be getting enough power that I won't really need to change the sprocket sizes.

I'll play with it a bit and see. I just wonder if the Gixxer 1100 sprocket will bolt to my Kat 750 rim.

With the Mexitana, I doubt you need to move away from stock sprocket sizes to get the type of acceleration and power you want. I was talking to Keith (SpecialK) on the phone today before his drugs kicked in and he was saying the Katabana was somewhat average getting to 80, but then suddenly opened up and was clocked at 182 - 184 by a friend who is a state trooper... Seems like that would be a reasonable compromise, and you might want to ask him what ratios he's using and base your decision on that answer (add a few teeth if you don't need that kind of top-end).

                Cheers

If my bike could do 182-184, i'd want a friend who was a state trooper too

Lou, I like sprocketspecialist.com, they make the sprockets and you can order any size. like a 50 tooth for a Katana
