I'm about to put my exhaust back on, how exactly do these stupid half moon shaped shims fit around the header pipes?

We ask because the stock late model Kat exhaust header retainers aren't half-moon shaped, but a circle inside a diamond, and they don't come off the pipe, so the connection is obvious...

I have done this many times and there isn't a real easy way to do it. I can reccomend, putting one of the exhaust bolts in losely on each pipe. put one shim in and walk it around til the clamp holds it there. Then put the other one in, making sure to keep your free hand up there to hold everything in place. I usually put the two so the center of each is at the clamp bolt. This is still not a easy task but that helps me.
