  • Thank you

Just wanted to extend a hearty thank you to the great people in our little community. I bought my latest Katana a few months ago (2001 Kat 600) and it had an idle problem, choke didn't work, headlight/electrical problem, etc.

I had never worked on a motorcycle before, but with the help of the great people here & my trusty Haynes manual I was able to fix all of my own problems.

    So far I've
    replaced the choke cable
    replaced a main fairing
    replaced starter cover
disassembled, cleaned, reassembled and reinstalled the carburetors
    adjusted the fuel/air mixture
    replaced the air filter
    replaced the spark plugs
    changed oil & filter
replaced entire wiring harness & headlight harness
    replaced both headlight bulbs
    etc.

The bike now idles nicely even after it heats up at a nice 1100 RPMs. The choke works great. The headlights work perfectly.

Thanks again to everyone here who helps others.

Just a tip: the warm-idle for your bike should be set to 1250 - 1350 RPM.

Thanks again. It currently idles at 2k while choked at initial startup and 1100 once warmed up, without choke, say at a traffic light.
