Oil residue on Spark Plug

  • Oil residue on Spark Plug

    What could have caused oil residue to be on my sparkplug cap? It was the only one that wasn't dry, and I don't think its possible for it to be from the valve cover, although I can't be certain. What do you think?

    On the spark plug cap? The obvious one would be grimy, oily fingers handling it at some point, such as while putting the stuff back together after a valve adjustment. Other than that, the gaskets under the hex-head bolts further forward on the valve cover, and the oil migrating under wind pressure at speed...
