Know anything about trikes ?

I sold my 81 Yamaha Maxim to my father in law late last summer. I wasnt riding it, and he was wanting to learn to ride. So to make a long story short..it hasnt been ridden since then, that I know of atleast..and he talked to missy tonite while I was at work, and he's considering trying to convert the yamaha.

He's a master welder..the guy can fabricate just about anything..and knows his way around a car engine as well as anybody...and I know it would take a whole lotta work. But im just curious as to how much it would take to convert a bike into a trike ?

The more info I can get the better. I would imagine the engine work would be the biggest thing correct?

not at all, most of the work will be on the frame and suspension on the rear.

That second one seems to be more for harleys, but he says u can get one custom made for anybike, so I'll check that one out too.

yeah, you can weld right off of any frame. It all is a matter of alignment
Trikes are a big thing in Ohio, you can't go anywhere without seeing a few.

personally I think trikes defeat the purpose of a bike. I can understand if you just wanna get on and feel the freedom of the wind as your father in law may, but to me the best thing about a bike (not trying to be squidly) is being able to cut lanes. The advantage of commuting on my bike is not having to deal with traffic jams. Just my opion, what do you guys think about that?

I think trikes are a awsome idea. Specially for riders that may have become parpeligic at some point in there lives, and wana get back in the saddle, or hell, maybe been a para there whole lives, and wana start.


Me personally, a trike would not due, unless i was to become a para. Then it would be on!

I happen to know a Gentlemen that is a para and rides, he puts the chair on back and on he goes. That is Freakin AWESOME!

Nice one AHF, Those VW powered trikes are wheelie machines, all the weight is in the back. If and when I end up not able to put my feet down at a stop I will have a trike.

I spent one season on a VW powered trike. I would only do it again if that was the only way I would be able to ride. It just wasn't my kind of thing I guess.

IM gonna email those companies in the links and also talk to the local technical / trade schools, and see if they have info about undertaking a project like this.
