Breadcrumb for anyone following the path.......just ordered a rack of post 98 600 carbs to put on my pre 98 (96 600) kat. will update once they've been tested.
and for all the hecklers on the forum, i searched and searched and searched some more. my 2 college degrees have yet to provide me with the proper search terms to enter that would lead me to a post regarding post carbs on a pre kat. so, refer to the old axiom or at least consider it if you want to keep these forums valued as a resource for us fellow DIY folk.......if you can't say anything constructive invest your energy in something else...
Just an observation....PEACE OUT,

You will need to get the carb to engine boots for the post carbs to use them on a pre engine, and vice versa. I'm currently using a set of pre carbs on a post engine, in a pre frame and harness. All I needed to do was swap the boots.
As for differences... positioning/spacing between the bodies on the rail is differnt, possible variances depending on the cc and post set you have for the actual size of the carbs (32mm, 33mm, 34mm, 36mm variations). Post have a TPS that works with the harness/ECI for timing on the rpm curve, pre does not. Post carbs have a dual throttle cable setup, pre does not. It's possible to just use the single cable though.
