  • fuel tank rubber mounts question

    I have a 95 kat,

The tank is a bit loose, i suspect the rear bushings may be worn so i intend to replace them, but in the front, i suspect i might be missing a part, I have a rubber part, kinda bent in half type of rubber pad, and the tank lip fits inside it, but I can move the front of the tank up and down about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, even when fully installed...

Am i missing a piece or is mine just worn too much ? from the schematics, it's hard to tell, I bought the bike used so I don't know if there ever was more...

Thanks for the input, much appreciated...

got the same problem with my tank. took the rubber pad out and cleaned the mounting spot and installed it again using silicone. that took care of it but now my problem is, it now moves about 1/2 inch side to side maybe next time i take my tank out, i'll add more silicone to it to get it thick enough so it wont move hope this helps you out! (pm me if you have questions)

#11 on this link is what you are talking about. http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...id~1022476.asp

The way it is facing is the way it should go on the tank, try bending the little tab on the tank. Just a little because it is spot welded. That should help. The tank is supposed to have some movement.

I had some movement in my tank as well. I replaced all the rubber, part 11, part 12 (2 each), part 18 & 19(2 each). Now the tank fits nice and snug.

Yeah, the heat of arizona is hard on the rubber parts. If you have a 10 to 20 year old bike I reccomend to replace anyway.

Part # 11 fits over a metal tab that had side tabs bent down ion each side...........tap those in so that they are facing straight down........I see lots of them flared out.................

            And Floxera was right on the $$$ - 11, 12, 18, & 19! THE ticket!

Oh, yea, whoever said LIGHTLY tap that tank prong closed a bit is RIGHT! I had a leaking tank in here last year...........the guy told me "It doesn't leak when its near empty............"

Weld was cracked at prong.......he admitted he had hammered it shut!
I've owned over 70 Katanas - you think I know anything about them?

OUCH, yes new parts always help!!
spot welds always break around the weld which can cause a leak.
