  • some swingarm info for you all

as you know by now, I was kinda stuck on my swingarm swap for my 1100 Kat. I did a whole lot of searching on the net and I cam across something that might help if anyone else has a problem.

I spoke to a guy named Doug and he said he could cut and weld my swingarm to what I needed so I still keep the same pivot and shock. My swingarm is 1/2 narrower than the Busa. You guys might want to bookmark this site. They are swingarm specialists.

My pleasure Meikol2. I just sent him my photos and he says no problem. I will be able to just slap on a busa rim. I am just waiting for a reply on the price though. I am hoping it is reasonable. Cosiderring all the work involved on frame re-work, I guess even expensive is reasonable..lol.

Q: Will the chain remain in the same place, or do you need to alter the chain routing somehow (either by extending the sprocket outwards with a new shaft, or by some sort of offset shaft system)?

        Curious...

Ok...here's the deal. I sent him the same pics as I posted here. He replied in like 30 minutes. This guy is very good as far as communication is concerned. I have personally talked to him twice and 3 emails. he said for $425 he will fit the Busa rim to my swingarm plus brace it up. There is only 1/2 in between mine and a Busa's anyway. This will be an extended swingarm btw. I was concerned about chain alignment like you asked. He said he had an idea, but he wants my swingarm there to verify. For $425, I will not even bother with the headache and delay in time by screwing with my swingarm and wasting materials..or possibly screw something up. And for $50 more it will be polished if I choose. He is really set-up for this. All the jigs and high tech welding. Is it really worth doing it yourself for that price and quality? All I know is just losing the frustration of dealing with what to do is worth the $425 to me.
So I am going to see what he says. If he can confirm something and get to work on that, then I can concentrate on the front sprocket if that has to be played with. I have never done this stuff before. I am WAY behind schedule. I will see what he says. But I am wondering just how much the hub plays in this deal. That makes a diff as well, doesn't it? Remember, there is only 1/2in diff between mine and the busa. I will get back to you on this. This will result in a nice "how to" for the other 1100 owners.

As far as communication is concerned, I give this guy big A+. He seems pretty confident. It is also cool that his 800 number works from here. Most don't from Quebec to the states.
