The other day I by coincidence found out that my 1996 600 F will turn the starter motor if the start button if pushed even if the bike is in gear.
All other bikes I've ever owned (all Yamaha's btw) could not start if the bike was in gear .. unless the clutch was pulled.
There's no clutch lever switch to be seen, and a wiring diagram does not seem to show any kind of clutch switch located anywhere else (for the 1996-97 models, pre ´96 wiring diagrams does show a clutch lever switch. Diagrams for the 98+ also show a clutch switch).
So .. it seems as the '96 does not have a mechanism to prevent the starter motor from being activated while the bike is in gear which on the other hand does not sound right to me.
Could someone please enlighten me ?
