  • Firing on 2 cylinders....

It only fires on #2 and #3 unless i spray gas directly into carbs #1 and #4, cant really figure out why.... could not having a gas tank on cause this by any chance? Im just squirting gas in the fuel lines until the bowls are full..... any ideas? Really dont wanna pull the carbs unless i really have to...

This is my first time working on a quad carb engine by the way...

2+3 are on the same coil aren't they?

Yup...... he could try swapping the coils and now see if only 1&4 are firing. ...but the plugs in 1&4 might be fouled. I'd clean/change them and see after that. Coils are relatively cheap..... and CDI's from salvage sources are worth the effort.

But if it fires when squirting gas into the carbs that rules out electrical. Time to clean those carbs.

Plugs were new yesterday, took a bowl off out of curiosity and it was filled with ****, i mean filled. Cleaned the carbs and now 2-3-4 are firing, now 1 only fires with gas squired into the carb.... wtf

You have to clean the entire carb, break down ALL the jets, take out the a/f screws, soak them. What you see under the float bowl isn't even the important stuff.

Well i just cleaned the gunk out and cleaned the main and pilot jets, for the most part it seems to be running good, took apart the #1 carb again and they pilot jet was clogged again, so i cleaned it and put it back on, ill do some more testing in the morning...

Sounds like you need a gas tank treatment.

I need a gas tank first.....

What could be causing the carb to not give gas to the #1 cylinder?
