  • Best drag racing motor swap?

Its me again, sorry. Im asking alot of questions, but I plan on doing ALOT of my Kat this winter. Just trying to figure out in which direction im going to go.
The only thing around my area is a drag strip, its about 2 miles away. Alot of my friends give me a hard time saying my kat will "NEVER" be as fast as a normal 600. I have done many engine swaps in cars so im not completely new, plus I am going to have someone help me. I want to setup my Kat for drag next year, Im going to go with a 5.5" rear tire along with an engine swap. My question is, what will be the best motor? The 1127 seems to have the most HP, and the bandit 1200 seems to have the most Tq. Also, any idea on what times a swapped Kat is capable of? Thanks in advance.

      must live near kil-kare, eh?

I'd go for the 1127...gearing plays a crucial role in drag racing as well, but I'm sure you knew that....

buy a different bike? lol just messin, as mentioned a 1127/1200 would be a promising swap, or possibly something fuel injected if you have the crafty abilities or money to have someone do it, a gixxer 750/1000 would make for one heck of a kat drag bike, but you will also be dipping into fabrication there, mounts and what not.

Kilkare is about 2 hours away... with traffic. Not really willing to ride up that far plus I have never been into to much circuit racing due to me growing up around drag strips

I would get another bike BUT, for example, I rode my bike to school the other day and parked next to about 11 GSXRs and 1 busa. I dont want to be like everyone else, not to say there isnt alot of Kats around. But not many FAST kats. Same thing I did with my S2000. It wasnt mean to drag racing, but I put parts on and beat some V8s with it, then it got respect.

So 1127 would be the best choice? Its not going to be an all out drag bike, just something to take to the track and beat some 600 crap talkers

Cam swaps in the B12 are common to get the HP back in line with the 1127. Personally, I'd grab a B12 motor as most likely you'll be able ti find one with lower mileage. Still a stout starting point if you ever want to "build" a serious hp motor.

See thats the thing, I dont really want to build a motor, just use a higher factory HP motor that swaps in. I want it to be reliable and faster. Its not going to be a race bike, just something I can race my buddies at the track on and still ride it around on nice days.

1127 with a piston kit. 1216 or if you can find an APE block 1370 (or something like that). Pair that with a set of Mikuni Flatslides (38 or 40 mm) with a good cam and away you go. Easily lookin at 150 hp with that kind of set-up. I have a 1216 in mine with stock carbs with a dj stage 3 jet kit and its still very capable of being an everyday bike, except gas mileage lol, but when ya open her up you gotta hold on as it tries to rip your arms outta their sockets

Oh yeah...my bad.... FWIW....If you want a motor thats going to be a new bike killer, you better think about building one, because a stock 1127 is probably making the same power as a new 6....

Actually Mreedohio's Chrome Project put down 127rwhp on the dyno last year if I'm not mistaken, which puts it in stock 04/05 GSX-R750 range.

BUT, using those numbers, you still need to remember the weight difference and add a chunk of horsepower to compensate for the 100lbs of extra Katana over the Gixxer.

it was dyno'd at 129.2 actually but i still think that dyno reads high because it said a kat 600 with a full v&h ss2r exhaust was pushing 95+hp.

what about the early 90s GSXR 750 motor? Seems to be an easy swap and net good HP, like 109 crank? I found a couple around here for under 500.
