  • Handlebar Grips

I don't know much about changing the grips but it's time. I'm searching online and I see some that have the throttle tube and some don't. Is the throttle tube separate from the grip? What do I really need?

Jell grips...22mm or 7/8. Getting them off is easy, cut those bitches off. Putting them on...use the search, interesting ideas on that.

Verify the length of the new grips before purchase. Some are shorter than others and leave a gap between the grip and switch housing. Just an FYI.

Thanks guys. A few things I didn't know. Like the length. I'm glad I didn't just go off and buy a pair. How does the grip come off the throttle tube? Do I have to open up the housing? The ones that are on there now seem to be pretty snug. I can't get it to move and don't want to break something other than the grips.

So I measured my old grips. What I was coming up with was 5 and 7/8. The ones that are online are 5 and 3/8 I believe. Is that what my grips actually should be? I'm thinking that mine are swollen whereas they are in bad shape. Is 5 and 3/8 what I should be purchasing?

1/2" swollen or stretched!!!! No...measure the throttle tube.
I can't remember what the length was, off hand.

I was measuring the grip. I will do the tube. You know a good bit. Do you happen to know the size of the snap ring that holds the shifter in place?

Hmmmm, I'll have to dig on that, I have replaced that.
Ok, I picked up a snap ring set at O'reilly's auto parts that had a snap ring set, one fit.

That's what I will do. Get a set. One has to fit. I had mine in a cup. The cup got knocked over and history. I can't find it to save my life.

I have a magnetic broom for that issue. It's just a magnetic bar on wheels with a release. Life saver. Granger sells them cheap.
