  • Factory Pro- Pro Shift Kit

Just to let members know that Factory Pro makes another option in their detent kit line, This kit is the Pro version and comes with a new arm with a bearing on the end instead of a pin and bushing. I talked to Lee at Factory Pro and all they do is take a new arm and drill out the pin and remove the bushing and add a new pin with a bearing. I have not installed this yet as I have a few things that I need to get done before installing this. After the kit is installed I will post back on how it works. I know it will have less rotating friction but whether it can felt or not remains to be seen.

Here are a couple of images of the content of this kit.

Stock arm is the lower one and FP Pro arm is the top one.

What is the advantages of this detent kit versus the other. Is it worth removing the Factory Pro detent kit I have now for this one?

Too be perfectly honest I would mod my own arm now that I see what they did. McMaster Carr sells the mini bearings as should any bearing house. In the short time that I have had the regular kit in I can feel roughness in the bushing when applying pressure and rotating it. The bearing should not have that problem.

Well then if it is that easy. Then I will have to pull my arm out and take it to my machanist at work. And get him to order a bearing through Mcmaster Carr since I know he uses that company alot.

that C-clip would have been just fine if I had snap-ring pliers that fit it! On a side-note, harbor freight has an 11-piece snap ring plier set for $15

I got my snap ring pliers from HF. They worked fine.

The snap ring pliers I had prior to getting the set from HF were too big to expand the clip when I went to put it back on. I ended up breaking the original clip and couldn't find another snap ring here in town that fit just right........I bought a replacement from Bike Bandit at $0.87 + $5.99 shipping

Just installed the new "Pro" shift kit on my 2006 kat 600 the other day. Made a real difference for shifting - smoother, quicker, and so far no missed shifts at all, even when I tried! Not too bad of a job, although the snap ring was a pain to deal with. Did lose it at one point in time and thought I was screwed, as it popped of the snap ring pliers when I was trying to re-install it. I ordered mine through CP (great service as always), for those of you that are thinking about upgrading your bike. I am very pleased with the results.

Well I purchased the bearing spoke of on the first page awhile ago. To do this mod myself, since I alrdy have the Factory Pro Spring installed. Today I decided to tackle this job. This was my last mod to do, before I put it fully back together.

The first issues was too figure out, how to get the original bushing/bearing off. Which Im alittle confused. Becuz mine rolled like a bearing. Not a stationary bushing. Otherway, It felt loose. I tried beating it out. Which did nothing but bent the weak arm. So I use a cut off wheel to cut the bushing. An chiseled the bushing off. To figure out it is a rivet style setup. So I knock out the rivet thingy out of the arm (Being I originally thought I was a press on bushing). Only to egg shape the hole and bent the arm. So I cleaned up everything. Decided it was good enough to work with. Got the bearing and the hole in the bearing is alot larger then the rivet thingy. I know it kinda fage. I took pics, but none show good details on theses small items. But the bearing on the first page wont work. I called Factory Pro, told them I already have the non pro kit installed. And dont need the whole thing. Just need the pro arm. They told me, it would be a special order and no problem. It would be $40 for the Arm. So thats what Im going to do. Its just easier. IMO

And Yes, I brought a thread back. But thought it was good info. For fellow searchers in the future.
