  • custom fender brace?

So has anybody made a custom fender brace? I'm about to draw a stock one up, make it thicker, out of aluminum, and possibly put a few custom touches to it. Just wondering if it's been done, or better yet, if anybody has an autocad file or something of a scale version that they've done already to save me the time. If not, I'll draw it up this weekend.

    Never touched it..
(well I've yanked it aff a bunch)
Seems like an easy part to beef up but
not sure what benifit you will see.
As the function of the brace is to prevent
twisting and the plate that is there, though thin,
has it's strength in tension. Thats why I've never
    changed it.
While you're in there I'll make a suggestion:
Fab up a thin plate, I used 3/16 polypro
and tap it to match the 4 screws that hold the fender.
(some people also epoxy the nuts under the fender) what this does is allow you to remove the
    fender/brace without removing the tire.
(or squeezing your hand up there)
If you work on the bike a lot.. one day you will be
    glad you did it!

I was never wroried about strength. Basically I'd be doing it as a cosmetic upgrade, plus mine is kinda screwed. One of the outer holes is torn out and another is seriuosly stretched out. Just figured it'd be cheaper to build one, and while I'm at it, why not make it a cool little mod. Thinking about getting it waterjet with the Suzuki S in the center. I have access to the toys and shops, so why not.

The polypro idea under the fender is great though. Thanks for the suggestion.

While the bike is in pieces is the best time to do the little mods, otherwise, they'll probably never happen. Plus it keeps me busy while waiting on parts.

They're not mine, I just have access to about everything. I work for a fab shop as an engineer and work with SS all day everyday. Waterjet, plasma, tig welding, sandblasting, paintbooth, all at my disposal. Yes it makes projects go by much easier. Oh, and a 20,000 square foot facility

And you hated me already? How about now. Sorry to rub it in. Just building the bike for fun right now. Will look at doing a serious bike in a couple years. First bike I don't want to get carried away.

I'm actually currently considering going with a different fender entirely and figuring out a way to mount it much more stealthily. Never liked the look of that big plate. We'll see. Too many options at this point.

Don't worry. If I'm doing something cool, I'll post pics, and if other people want in, I'm happy to make more. Cost on little stuff like this should be relatively cheap. Just gotta go draw it up first. If I could find my calipers......

                I have AutoCAD (2000).
So. Does that mean I can get quotes on parts?
