  • Stupid paint prep question

May sound dumb and obvious but hear me out. The previous owner painted the bike in a Slimer Green Glittering BC/CC. In some areas the clear is delaminating from the base. Should I strip it all off or sand past the delamination feathering it in, prime then paint? I'm already into fixing cracks in the body work. Also I've got a big Kat. The stripe on the stock painted tank I have is under the clear. Is that a vinyl stripe or painted? My suspicion is a cleared over decal but wanted to confirm.

If the clear is pealing/ flaking, sand down to the base, then prime. The best way is to sand down to the steel and start over.

Usually clear is applied over the decal.

+1 to what 92x said, a little more work but a better finish
