  • tail conversion

i did do a search on this topic, but it looked like there was some disagreement about what all is involved in swapping a 98-02 tail for an 03+

    is it as simple as:

    - tail fairing pieces
    - tail light
    - longer pull cord for the seat locking mechanism

this last one was the part that was in question

i like the pricing of the older models better, but i'm not crazy about the tail section. based on what it would cost to convert it, it may be worth just buying the newer model in the end. Plus the hassel of trying to match colors of the replacement plastics.

    what do you think?

    thanks

I won't be any help on this but I did see a tail conversion to a busa. The busa tail and kat body just looked like a really nice different look

But my take on your post is...you gotta pay for convenience. If you rather have the convenience, then I would suggest you get the new one with matching color, etc. If the bike is clean, keep it clean looking!

Buy a newer version. You'll never be fully satisfied with a hybrid. You either like the pre style or you don't. I happen to think that the Pre looks better than the post, but that's just me.

He is not talking pre vs. post. He is talking 98-02 the posts had a 'bumble bee' tail. 03-06 they switched to a 'busa-like' (I am pretty sure the part number for the light is the same as the busa, but I could be wrong) tail.

As for switching the two, I have no clue. I bought an '06 so it came with the nice looking tail.

When I did mine all i had to do is flip the lock cylinder upside down and it worked fine. Those are the only pieces i used, but you have to rewire the tailight to work as well.

Believe you need the bracket for the tail light as well.
