  • powder coating!

i called a local shop and they gave me a quick quote of 580 for frame swing arm both wheels. not including what they charge for smaller pieces i bring in for the same coat. so i'm assuming for the

    valve cover
    top triple clamp
    clipons/ bar
    brake calipers.
    rotors
    shock linkage
    various brackets ect

    it would be 400-600
    +580
    --------------------------
    1200 total ish
is that fair? doesn't sound that bad to me, but im not in the industry.
Please, Just go home, relax, and have a think or two... hell... have as many as you can handle! It'll do all of us some good.

Actually, it doesn't sound fair at all. That's insane! Unless it's a special coat, they should charge you $200-$300 total. Maybe an extra $100 or so to set up a special colour, if that's what you are doing. I'm speaking from my experience in dealing with local shops to me when I was getting prototype checkout racks done.

Too bad you are so far away, I could get one of my suppliers to do it...

Does that include stripping and blasting the pieces first?

            Sounds like rape.

That makes a hug difference. like any other coating or paint the real labor/cost is in the prep.

That seems a bit high, I found a guy near me that last year coated my rims and swing arm for $230, and I just had him coat my fork tubes for $30. Included sandblasting

It would really depend on how busy they are. Busier places are cheaper, cause they can spread the cost of running the cooking cabinet across more customers. ya dig???

I paid $300 for this stuff last year including stripping. I'll be sending almost the same stuff for the 600 project in the next few months plus the frame, I imagine it should run about $500.

When you are asking for an off the cuff estimate... and they have no idea on size... they'll likely quote a bigger price.

The prep work can be expensive and tedious to do. Do they replace/repack the wheel bearings or do you do that? Be clear about what the service includes for the price when looking at different vendors.
