  • Changing the plugs...........

    Just a quick question.

What parts are removed off of the bike are required to replace/remove the spark plugs on a 1989 katana 600?

I am assuming the side pannels and possibly the fuel tank? I believe tha the current plugs are toast and I want to replace them with new ones.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

I assume you mean a 98? If it is the same as my 02 750, just the tank, but you'll have to pry the side panels a bit. You'll also need a LONG reach wrench to get the plugs out

Loosen the side panels by unbuttoning them at the tank brace.
      Remove the fuel tank.
I find it easier to take the cross member support off then pull the plugs.

The tool in the took kit is the easiest way to do this.

Thanks. I have a 98 and an 89. It is the 89 600 kat (blue) - ("see my garage") is what I am referring to. The 98 is a Kat 750 (red) and it is doing just fine. The 89 600 had been sitting for 6 years and was given to me for free. I initially started it up and it ran but I think that the plugs are fouled pretty much. Either way, this spring I will go through it and have all fluids, replaced plugs as well and all should be good.
