  • Road rash

Had a question laid the bike down a month or so ago. It is roadrashed on the right side. What would be the best filler to fill in the roadrash? I used epoxy and fiberglass to fix the crack and what not on the fairings before but is there a alternative to using fiberglass? I hear not to use bondo. The roadrash makes the fairings look flat looking to round them up a bit. Any info would be appreciated thanxks

There is a post somewhere on this forum from a dude who says to use the black pipe similar to pvc (plumbing pipe) from Lowe's/Home Depot/Ace's. You use a butane torch/campers torch and melt it off the pipe into your cracks and crevices then sand it down and paint er up. Presto chango! Supposedly this may be the Cat's Meow of filling fairing defects. Let me know if you try it. I've been meaning to but I'm so cheap that I'm waiting to come across a little scrap piece to try it.

ABS Cement IS liquid ABS. The same thing as your fairings, and no need to burn the plastic to get it to fill in the rashed spots. You can use it to build up, fill in, fix cracks, make new parts/tabs, etc...

It's stupid cheap ($5 for a 16 oz can aprox) and available at any home improvement store or hardware place. Apply in thin layers, with small sandings between works best.

Use to get into the shape you want, then sand smooth. There will be some very small/pin sized bubble holes along the surface you can fill with flexible filler to get that fine finish.

That would be the route I would go anyways.

you can also go to any marine and boat store and they have liquid abs patch, it a little different then the glue, so you can apply alot thicker with faster dry times.

For me, I think that would be a great option after filling in larger rashed areas with the ABS, instead of being the primary filler.

I have used Evercoat products in the past on drag boats. Their stuff is easy to apply & work to paint ready status. May be a bit more expensive, but very much worth it in the long run. Probably depends on what you want in the end, & how much effort you are willing to put into it to get where you want it.....Good luck!
