they shaved the rear fairing they took off the little vent peice and also shaved a larger opening in the rear.. also has a solo cowl on there as well.. i thought about doing the same shaving on mine.. it makes the bike's *** end look higher, looks pretty sweet..

well if you are never going to have a passenger just cut that subframe peice out of there and bingo bango do a little shaving to the fairings on the back and your set..

if your running a solo cowl you cant, unless you put a spare rear seat in a tank bag because with a solo cowl you have to remove the rear seat.

No, you will not be able to "throw some booty on there" as you so eloquently put it. If you want to make the tail look better, rip off the Katana subframe and all and weld some other subframe and rear end on there and make it fit. If you do a job half ***, it will look half ***.

What do you mean by newer bike? Newer Katanas or like the SS crowd?

thats a stock katana tail, with the kickplates cut off. i also had a custom made abs undertail made from denmark. No fiberglassing was involved, just measuring and cutting. If your interested about an undertail contact Thazkat because he has the only other one and he can't use it so I'm sure he would sell it for a price.

The frame and subframe of a SS bike is a lot different than a Katana subframe and frame. Like I said, swapping one over is your best option, and that's a lot of fab work. You can't just cut pieces off the bike...that's a good way to die.

                            truthhurtz42,

True story... Local rider I chanced across stopped me in a parking lot one day to chat... he had a 600, I have a 750. He wanted to talk about things I had done to my bike, and I guess show off his work...

He did exactly what your asking to do... cut the sub frame support rails off, and didn't put anything back. Said he has been riding it that way for a few days now. Well, conversation ends, I get on my bike, and as I'm about to pull off..... he sits on his bike, wiggles a little and POP!... falls down onto his tire, frame and all. Plastics broken, subframe bent, and rolled off the back of the bike as it fell over onto it's side...

The tail is NOT strong enough to support you if you cut and do not replace the sub frame support rails. It really isn't. They are there for a reason.

If you want to relocate them, sure, yes, you can... But you have to put something back and not just cut them off and leave it that way.

I understand fully what you want, and I'll be doing this mod myself soon when I get my under engine exhaust because it also means you will have to redo the passenger pegs (and thus stock exhuast can mounts) as well. I'll be redoing the support bracket by moving it up higher and adding a couple of latice style supports between the new sub support rail and the top rails of the sub frame.

                            Krey
