  • LED conversion

Well after much calculation and experimenting here it is:

Some parts were easier, some harder.
I havent calculated the total cost yet and
I have some ways to improve the design so
I'll post more later on. I may offer the brake set up
for pre 98's, and I'm going to work on a replacement bulb.
    (OEM bulb converted to LEDs)

Belive it or not, the "brake" set up was meant to be the "running" one.
      Those LEDs are bright buggers!
I ordered the LEDs online. They are 12000 MDC
Red LEDs and the "runners" are 20000 MDC White.

      The Turn signals are Yellows.
The hard part was dealing with all the resistors.
I could make them twice as bright. I have tons of room. The next one will use lower powered runner LEDs and Higher powered Brake ones to make the brake light brighter and the "running" light more
      "distributed".

got any pics of inside the light and the wiring? they are quite a pain to solder in all of the resistors even on a smaller scale

            No pics inside..
The pain was really not having the right wire,
when I make the second version I'll
be using more of a wire wrap method.

Pre-winding the resistors so they just slipped over the "tail" sped things up. I think I only had about
3 hours of work into it, not including all the design and research.

                    Awesome stuff!

I was just wondering if it'd be possible to fit the leds in 'variable' patterns and still have it road legal.
would be sweet if you could make the brake light spell out "STOP!" or something similar(would only fit this at bike meets etc. but the response would probably be great)
Btw. i could imagine "Up" (rear only) and "Yours" (braking) being the new ultimate SQUID accesory

I know it's a ridiculous idea, but i'm just looking for some unusual mods for my bike, that's easy to remove if i ever sell it (strangely enough; only completely stock bikes retain their value around here)

I don't think there is any legal reason why you couldn't do what ever you want..
The new SV has two vertical rows of lights..
Old School Harleys have "stop" over the light in chrome...

Does up and yours translate in Dainish?

Rend Mig <- close enough to get the point across hehe
actually i'm interested enough in this, that i might order it all the way from Denmark.

a led conversion would probably help alliviate this
