it is one of those urban "myths". If this worked then every winter when it was cold out all the dents would magically pop out of your car and bike lol. You could just roll it out in the snow then the next morning push it in your warm garage and TADA! You have all your bodywork done!
I am sure this is the method that all the pro shops use, lmao.

it's actually not a myth... but it's also no miracle cure for body damage.
lots of criteria have to be met...
only dents on relatively flat panels
only small, round(ish) dents
only shallow dents without creases
only recent dents have much of a chance of coming out good
unless it's a hot, sunny day, you should first use a hairdryer to heat the metal around the dent, then apply the dry-ice directly to the dent.
i've only seen one dent come close to 100%, most to no better than 80% or so. it can most definately reduce the appearance of small dings and dents.
it also helps if you can apply pressure to the backside of the panel.
i worked some dents out of the side of my van, and some from the roof and hood of my girlfriend's car back in highschool.
