  • Brake caliper

I was changing out my rear caliper two weeks ago for another used one (25 € at the local dealer) but it looked quite ugly (lots of gold paint scratched off), so I decided to repaint it. I was quite satisfied with just stripping the old paint off with scotchbrite, however. What do you think? (I know the picture sucks, will try to get a better shot when the sun comes out)

I kind of like the raw metal look of it - I'm not a fan of polished stuff... I'm thinking of maybe doing the same to the front calipers and even my new tank (I'd clearcoat that one afterwards, though).

This is the reason for changing the old out:

(the pistons would hardly move at all even when using a lot of force - just getting them out was a PITA)

looks pretty good, would you need to add ant sort of protectant to stop it from rusting up?

And just curious what's a € ?Is that a Euro?

Yeah , not too shabby . But why did you even bother . I mean , you're not supposed to use your rear brake anyway !

It's aluminum, which doesn't rust, but corrode However, aluminum oxide is not porous and brittle like rust, but rather forms a protective layer, so there is really no reason to clearcoat it... read more

        Yeah, € = euro, like $ = dollar

It's more from a legal point of view... When I return with it to Sweden there are inspections, and they test both front and rear brake for efficency...

Looks great and get some aluminum spray paint and paint the caliper plastic cap to match. Definitely a nice look.
