I'm not to sure what your talking about when referring to the triangular pieces.

I have a soldering iron as well as a heat gun, which I would think I would need vs. a soldering iron to make the contour. Am I wrong?

yes you are, all you need is a soldering gun to weld and fill that crack.
With the triangular thingies I mean the "strip" at the bottom off the lowers with those triangular cut outs.

You mean cut of the silver section of the rear fairing pieces and use them? The ones that look like a faux girdered frame.
