I have nothing to say, I have no opinion. That's what I learned from 9 1/2 years of marriage.
Thanks to all who are serving in our GREAT ARMED FORCES from an old Navy Squid
How does the hugger mount? Are there exisiting tabs on the swingarm or do you have to drill holes?
For the Metisse, it utilizes the two tabs on the left side that the original chain guard used. For the right side, they provide a bracket that bolts into the top of the swingarm using the existing brake line guide. No drilling, just a few screws.

Do these have any functional purpose or are they just for looks?
If you don't care about looking different than stock, keeping your fender eliminator clean from mud and chain grease, and getting rid of the stock chain guard, they are totally useless.
