  • Love your cowling brace (Pre 98)

Step 1: Order a used cowling brace from Keith. Get it in okay condition, but a little rusty. (Sorry, forgot to snap any pics).

Step 2: Call buddies dad to discuss said brace and said rust. Drive to his house, and bead blast it with aluminum oxide.

Steps 2 & 3 prime and paint.... coming up later this week.

    Good buddies. Looks new now.

Next step: Prime. 2 coats. Hang it up to dry. "What happened to all the wire coat hangers I had?"

And yes, that's the hooters girls calender in the background. It's a man's garage I say!

          Your correct.

This is as good a place as any since it's sort of on topic.
For anyone that has trouble getting your fairings to line up on a pre98. This stay and the mount at the back of the tank are the two most important pieces of your bodywork. If either one of them is bent even a little it will throw off the entire body and something somewhere will not line up easily and smoothly, just an FYI for the masses.

I also found out that the alignment of the holes on the front of the cowling, where it overlaps the belly pan are also very important.

Just about done. Here it is next to the old one.

FYI: I hate the gauge cluster.

I don't see a problem with the "old & busted" . Just a little JB Weld and some vice grips .....

If you look at it head on, you can see the twist that some how got introduced... Let me know if you want to "restore" this one, and I'll send it to ya.
