  • Post 98 Shifter broken

So I broke the shifter on my 2001 Katana 600. After much searching I got an aftermarket one for post 98 Kats off of ebay. Unfortunately, its a folding shifter that sucks, and it folds whenever I try to up shift (downshifts just fine), making it pretty much useless.

I am finding it VERY hard to find 98-2003 shift levers for Kats, but there are a TON out there for pre98 Kats, SVs, GSXRs, and Bandits. I posted on reddit asking if shifters were generic, and the general answer is no.

When I go on Ebay I can find some parts that claim to be compatible. However they also list pre 98 kats as comaptible for the same part. On the flip side, just searching for Suzuki Katana shifter will yeild results that claim to be compatible with pre98 Kats only. So my question is:

    1) are post 98 Kats compatible with the pre-98 shifters?

    2) Please help me find a non-folding, new aftermarket shifter. Preferably black.

    Thanks.

    That was difficult. m.ebay.com/itm/331307580904?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/121321111218?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/400758253656?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/171438204320?nav=SEARCH http://m.ebay.com/itm/110484749072?nav=SEARCH
I believe the levers are the same. Try Ron ayers to cross reference the part numbers.

I appreciate the feedback, but the shifters you posted were all used OEM ones, not new aftermarket ones. Still, I guess I'll go that route, as I am not finding a non-folding non-OEM one.

Really, my question is what other bikes have a compatible shifter? Earlier Katanas? SV650s? Bandits? GS650Fs? If anybody knows, please post here. As I said before, I'm just going to get a used OEM one for the time being, but I think it would be nice to have a final answer.

From I what I have found so far there is no other compatible shifter other than the OEM.

There definately are, the one I got is aftermarket and fits. It just sucks because trying to upshift activates the folding mechanism meant to protect it during a fall.

Right, but then again, there is "OEM FIT" and then there's "this will work" but may be different from the OEM placement.

I ended up not going with Ebay used, and stuffed my existing shitty aftermarket stupid folding one with JBWeld and wrapping that in automotive tape. Lets see how this plays out.

According to Suzuki, part # 25600-19C04, LEVER ASSY, GEAR SHIFT is used on every 600 and 750 Katana from 1988-2006.

If it fits, but doesn't work right... what's the point?
