  • Will 00-03 Bandit wheels fit in my 88`600f

    Hello
After lot of search, and no direct results I have to ask, will 00-03 Bandít wheels fit in 88 600f? I might get pair of those, but not sure of fitment. They look like 98-03 600f wheels, but biggest difference is front axle= 17mm according this: http://kotisivukone.fi/files/onlyfas..._2000-2004.pdf

And here is pictures of bandit wheels: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/dsc0085vr.jpg/

    Thanks if anyone can answer.

... Sorry this is somewhat unrelated to this question, but do you have one of those fiche PDFs for the GSXF or other bikes too?

Kiitos! Been after something like that for AGES.
To guide you on the question: It won't be a direct swap, but it shouldn't be impossible. Alternately if you can stretch your budget and don't mind a little modifying, you can fit a 91-95 GSX-R 750/1100 front end onto your GSXF with too much trouble.

          The issues...

Front Bandit 600 wheel = Wider hub, different rotors, wider rim, larger axle.

Rear Bandit 600 Wheel = Wider hub, different carriers, different rotors, larger axle.

Ways to over come the issues...

Front wheel - Honestly, the simple way on this one is to swap the triples and forks with a front end that is closer to or will work for the wheel. The OEM Kat front is going to be too narrow. Rotors will want to rub on the forks, hub will be way to wide to center it well and have the speedo work, etc. Can you get the bandit front end?

Rear wheel - Axle size is going to be 20 mm on the new wheel. Your 88 swingarm is unique... it's a different size and shape of any other Kat swingarm out there. I would swap the swingarm for a newer Kat version, widen it to fit the larger hub, reslot the axle slots to a 20mm axle, use the RF600 (my fav) or the bandit adjusters. Use the axle, spacers, carrier, rotor, and caliper bracket from the bandit. You may have to do a minor adjustment on the clearance for the brake torque arm.

Double check everything... I'd be happy to reflect back on ideas if something will work or not, but be aware that even on similiar year bikes... they sometimes made small changes that could have effects on your mods.

Thank you guys for response. I think I keep on searching complete front end or post wheels and forget bandit wheels.
One more question, is 88`swingarm really different than newer pre kats? Because I dont find any different swingarms here: (page 124) http://kotisivukone.fi/files/onlyfas..._1988-1996.pdf

              Yes. Definatley different.

The tube used to make the 88 swingarm is a little wider, and alot shorter for a more squarish shape (not quite, but closer) than the other pre Kats that have a very rectangular shape.

I don't have an 88 swingarm to get all differences measured out (perhaps you could do that?.. ) but for one example, I'll show you pics of the 88 vs all other pre chain adjusters.

Side view, 88 model on top side.

You can see the internal adjuster is longer, with a lower profile than the bottom.

The end plates sit flush with the swingarm ends. So through that you can clearly see the tubeing is a different shape between the 88 (left) and the later models (right).

              That's just the start.

The link you posted does not have a "J" model listed for the swingarm. I'm going to assume it's because they have completely did away with the entire assembly (none of it available any longer) perhaps?... I don't know. I do know that they are different.

Here is another thread where I learned to look for the differences...

Can't get it to run right? Find a trick to add HP?
