  • Another Sprocket Question

I have read about 100 posts on chains and sprockets here and still am not sure what I should order. I have a 97 600 model. Dennis Kirk has the following kit that they say will fit but I have read so many different posts on what size is stock and what length chain. This is what they have for $190 do you guys know if this will fit and is it a decent price? I want a decent setup but cant break the bank right now.

    Thanks!

The stock chain length on a Pre 750 is 118 links using 15/47 setup for the sprockets.

The pre 600 is 1.5" shorter on the swingarm and uses 14/46 setup for the sprockets.

At 5/8" pin to pin, that puts the right chain length at 112 links.

        (118 - 2 links for smaller sprockets by 1 tooth each = 116 links)

(116 - 4 links for smaller swingarm (1.5" difference in length, double that for the return on the chain as well, divide 5/8" for pin to pin, round down for even link numbers.... ( 3" divided by .625 (chain pitch) = 4.8, rounded down to 4)

I saw that tool before but it does not even have an option for my bike. It goes up to 93 & then it has 98-01. When I choose the earlier models it says the chain is a 118 link but almost every website, online store list my bike as a 112 link chain.

Thanks! So it is 112 links. I did see in some posts here that models from 93-97 I think had 15/45 gears but it sounds like either would work with a 112 chain.

Just buy a 116 or 118 and cut to fit

If it's the same price (and most times it is...) I always suggest getting the 120 link and cut to fit. No worries about any of it then.
