2006 750 Kat fork seals and oil level

I am new to this forum so navigation through it a little difficult yet. This topic may have been covered but. I am wanting to replace my fork seals. 1 how difficult is it and 2 how does 1 figure out how much and how to check the correct oil level once it is completed. I've seen different methods 1 from being using a zip tie measuring it with a ruler notching it to the correct length and testing. Anyone else have a better way to measure. Also cannot find a repair manual for it. Goes up to 2002. Also on reseting the seals I've seen using black tape around the fork creating a large ring. Others used pvc. Reviews on these methods? Can't go out and buy a seal driver when all my expenses have been on parts. Plus bike shop wants 150 for a 30 min job. Na I'm good. Any help be great thanks

Go to mechanics 101 and download the manual. Parts are cheap should take a couple hours.

PVC always worked well for me. The 03-06 years can use the 98_02 manual. For measuring fork oil I have a dedicated tool, but before that I just dipped in a tale measure. Zip tie idea seems nice.

Thanks all for the information. I printed out a copy of the manual and also downloaded it to my phone so I have plenty if reference. Going to try to freeze the seals in freezer before applying then to the forks the pvc is a good idea aswell

I never found it necessary to freeze the seals myself, as for fluid level I just bought a cheap set of measuring cups that had OZ on them and filled to the recommended Fluid Ounces.

Freezing seals WILL not benefit you in any way, more chance of damaging the seal. If you were trying to get a bearing in a hub, then yes that may help but not a seal.

Yup, warming them would be more of a benefit but not necessary.

I just followed the video that black peter I think it was made on vevo. When I blew a seal that had me back to business as usual in no time.

I got them on used the black tape method. They was changed before and oh my someone didn't read any direction in front of them. Spring washer wrong place and had seal upside down. Idiots
