Something I have not seen on any write up is making sure that the damping rod is centered after torquing down the damping rod bolt as they will seat themselves in crooked.

I just looked at this link...I don't see the numbers you guys are talking about, the 5 7 and 9. I just ordered the fork seals/ wiper seals leak proof parts a few days ago. What else will I be needing? I of course am doing it myself, I also have a haynes manual on the way.

You need to click on suspension and then front dampener, then you will see the numbers they are referring to.

Thank you sir, yea I've heard....but I already bought them after I heard so now I am gonna just put them in I guess. I ordered the oil seals and wiper seals, are the wiper seals the dust seals? sorry I know newb question...

return them and get OEM. my leakproof seals lasted 1 season.

I'm just gonna go ahead and put them in, I ride my bike to work actually everywhere when I can, so I need it fixed right away, I know it's unsafe. Ill ride them this year...dunno what the bike situation will be next year, but if I get to that situation again I will use OEM...I should've got OEM this time but you learn...

They are dust seals. Rarely hear them called wiper seals...

dust seals = wipers. Same thing. I've always called them wipers.

One thing you might want to make the install go smoothly is a seal driver. I made one for my pre 750 using some PVC from Lowes. A 1 1/4" coupler with the interior rib ground off with the Dremel fits around the fork tube without hitting the stanchion and a 2"x1 1/4" adapter on the end of that gave it just enough mass to drive the seal in without too much trouble. Just put the seal on the tube (lube it up with some fork oil), push it down to the top of the stanchion and whack it a few times with the driver. The wiper/dust seal goes on the same way after you install the snap ring.

JFTR, I've never had trouble with Leak-Proof seals. Installed several sets of them and never had to replace any.
