  • gsxr forks on a 91 kat

i have a 91 600 katana and want to install forks from an01 to 05 gsxr 600 or 750, has anyone done this or does anyone know if it can be done.
i would use the forks and the lower triple clamp with the upper clamp from my bike to hold the bars any info would be great.
oh and this is my first post high all great to be here i do have some info to post in the electrical section so im not totally usless thanks jason

yeah it's not gonna happen. To use GSXR forks you need the same sterring head bearing 88-92 GSXR 750 work maybe 86-92. 05, not a chance, unless you find a place to make the bearing which you might, of course you'd have to have 1000 bearings made

      Rubbish !

its a simple job  no need to mess with having bearings made ive done similar at least 50 times no problems

        Hello,

Yes this is possible. But you need the complete GSXR front end and the Kat triple trees will not be involved. This makes it a bit more interesting on where you put the clip-ons etc.
My history with this? I have 2003 GSXR 600 RSU front end on my '97 Kat 750.

So, get a newer GSXR front end (forks, triples, wheel, brakes etc) then get the following bearing kit from Zoran at TwinWorks http://www.twinworksfactory.com/stor...d_bearing.html
This kit is for the older SV650 to run GSXR forks and the old SV650 share the same bearing sizes as the Kat. Also get a roller bearing kit for the Kat as the Twin Works just replaces one bearing and you should do both while your there.

You will need to confirm that the GSXR stem is long enough for the Kat so some measurements before hand are handy.

Also the position of the clip-ons could be a PITA andd hit the fairing etc so you need to figure something out there. Since I used the RSU of the 600 they share the same size as the Triumph 959 which have clip-ons that have rise to them. Enough rise to be above the top triple even though they are mounted below the top triple.

Lastly you need to realise you will loose front end height and therefore have less rake (quicker steering). Also the GSXR front end may not be sprung or dampened for the weight of the Kat. The trail isn't usually too bad since the off-set of the GSXR is less and therefore with less rake you actually gain some trail (stability).

        TTYL, Jeff

            :stfuchris

Jwilliams has given good info there all valid points that need considering

all i can add is that here in the uk getting specialist bearings to do the job is near on impossible so the way we do it is slightly different but with the same results .......... take the front end of your choice, press out the steering stem replace it with the one from your bike & slot the front end back in on stock bearings

on swaps where the steering stem is a different size as it passes through the yoke simply get a copy of your stock stem made but with the correct size as it passes through the yoke

easy & cheap does that count as my 51st time ?

front end swops are easy mate , get a complete front end and get the stems swopped over , any half decent engineers should be able to do this for you
off the shelf parts do not make a custom bike
