  • The evolution of my 2000 Kat

So I just bought this bike in March and have been doing changes. The bike had been laid down a few times from what I can see and I plan on fixing the plastics this coming winter. For now the last mod I have before full on summer is here is to paint the front fender black, as I have just covered it with a detailing kit to cover the big scratch on it, but here is what I have done so far.

so first here is the fender detailing tape I have until I paint the whole thing black.

then I re-painted the bar ends black as they were all scratched up and I replaced the brake and cluthc levers with black ones as the brake was a replacement and curved away from my hand.

I painted the seat handle black after buffing out the scratches in it.

And I installed the Zero Gravity touring windscreen in smoke.

And I added some Suzuki white decals on the lower fairings.

The stickers, handle, and windshield were done today with the others in the last week so I havent tested the windscreen on the interstate yet but I like it none the less.

Gray could look nice, I just sanded the clear coat off using 000 steel wool and then painted over that with krylon satin black, same with the bar ends. The only places I sanded all the way down were the bar ends and pard of the grab bar that was scratched. On those areas i used 80 grit sand paper, then 180, then the steel wool to make sure it is smooth. If your not going to sand all the way down as I did make sure you get all of the clear roughed up and off, otherwise your paint wont stick right onto the clear and could run or bubble.

I forgot to mention that there is a multicolor underflow kit on the bike, I cant get any good photos of it though.

Yesterday I used rustoleum lens tint to tint my blinkers. Just spray on, works really well.

Next Ill be painting the whole bike black, I was going to wait until winter but seeing how well and fast Ive been able to do everythin else I figure Ill give it a whirl. Im going to use the rustoleum gloss black automotive paint.

                Painted rear fairings

Today I painted the rear fairings gloss black, what a pain it was. The decals are on there really well and it took a lot of elbo grease. I also tinted the brake light but it was to dark for my taste so I used a rag and acetone to wipe the spray tint off. Moral of the story, leave your tail light alone and have someone else paint and fix your broken plastic, or get a garage, I wish I had one instead of my apartment parking lot. O well, lots of fun when the baby is sleeping, silly 4 week old.

Today I installed the healtech speedo healer. Really simple to install and super easy to program to fix the spedo.

Yesterday I installed a brake flasher. It makes your brake flash 6 times and then holds steady when you press your brakes. It was the cheapest one Ive seen at $15 on amazon. Here is the link.[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036RFLR6/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00"]Amazon.com: BRAKE LIGHT FLASHER LAMP MODULE FLASHER CAR TRUCK MOTORCYCLE SCOOTER REARALERT: Automotive[/ame]

So Ive done a few more things. I put on new tires, new rear blinkers as the covered ones I had were to dark and I bought a new stock pipe as my old one was all messed up. With that I decided to make a slip on of my own for when I want to be loud.

Its an experimental pipe I made. I bought a new stock pipe, so really quite, and took the old one, cut the 3 inches that goes into the header and attached a tip from Walmart. This is not what I ride with, I use the quiet stock pipe. Today I modded my pipe and added whats called a lolliepop baffle. I added 3 of them to the pipe. It dropped the db of the tip from 120 db at idol to 90. So now it sounds and runs properly, but again, this is for fun and my main pipe will be my new stock pipe, I like being sneaky, but its fun to be loud when I want to!

I decided to not use the pipe. It was fun, but really loud and after I put the new stock can back on there was a pretty substantial difference in performance. Maybe this next winter Ill look for a new can.
