Default 2001 zx11

So I have had my Zx for about 3 weeks, no super long rides yet except the one home. Took about an hour at 80 mph to get home...
Compared to the Kat 750 I had, the power is outrageous. lol. I hopped on the hwy and took off like I would the Kat, quick look at the spedo and was doing 120 in 4th... i was like OMG.. slowed down clicked up to 6th and man it takes at 4800 at 75 mph.
in general driving I dont notice the extra 50 lbs. I do notice the weight when trying to back the bike up..
lots of good points, only a couple of bad.
Im short so I have a good reach to the bars, which creates presser on my wrist. Spacers coming soon. and fuel mileage, 38 isnt bad, but the Kat got 42.. So thats my short term review..
Thanks for reading... lol

I know the feeling...

I looked at this- http://katriders.com/vb/showthread.php?t=101420

I was basically in lust with it, but couldn't get past the headlight on the ZX11. So I got a ZZR1200 instead. She should keep your hands full.

Hey free, I like the zzr1200, but the Harley dealer would not do a deal with me...lol they sux...lol I dont like the single headlight, but I must say that it does work good. In most conditions I have not had to have the high beams on... I'm trying to find out if the zzr1200 headlights and fairings will fit on.. but I do love it other wise..

Like I said- I was REALLY happy with the ZX11. It felt solid, smooth and quite fast. It just so happened that I found the ZZR for an excellent deal. Had it not come together- I'd have sucked it up and bought the single headlight-ZX. It some point function has to trumph form. And, as you know, that motherbitch REALLY functions.

Dated headlight, Looks like a Kat to me.
The one thing I don't like about the plastic on the Kat is the straight section under the seat, ZX11 has it too.
Nice bike though! Enjoy

running them low makes them go BOOM!. also long wheelies will do it to.
here is a great site for everthing ZX http://www.bigbikeworld.com/

this off a zx11 fourm.

My bike is a ZX-11D7 with 15,000+ mi. and internally stock. I notice that the maximum oil pressure (using a liquid filled analog - type gauge) is obtained at approx. 7,000 RPM. All readings are taken after 1/2 hr. of riding at speed and at an amdient air temp. of 80 - 90 deg.F. That pressure is 62 psi. +/- 2 psi. I normally run a full 4 liters of oil in the sump which is about 300 ml. above the top of sight glass. One day for experimenting, after a thorough warm up, I drained about 900 ml. out of the sump which put the oil level at the bottom of the sight glass. I then observed a wierd thing. The oil pressure fluctuated quite a bit more than usual at all RPM's and was lower throughout. At 7,000 RPM, not only was it much lower but it fluctuated WILDLY between 36 and 56 psi. If I didn't have a liquid filled gage I think the gage would have broken. It was scary to watch the gauge at this RPM so I only kept it up there long enough to get the readings as it was continuing to get worse with time. Keep in mind that the oil level was still visible at the bottom of the sight glass, any lower than that and I would hate to see the readings!

Since most of the 3'rd. connecting rod failures occur at high RPM it seems logical after observing this that the low oil level was to blame and the pump was cavitating quite a bit and thus aerating the oil. My gauge is connected to a steel braided hose leading from the galley plug under the left hand timing cover and I think this is also the high pressure side (not positive about this), so pressure in other areas could even be lower.

At any rate, after adding back the 900 ml. to the sump, the pressure returned to normal at all RPM's. The oil for this experiment was 10W-40 KawaChem mineral base.
