  • Bandit Chain Adjuster Swap

I'm interested in doing this mod. I have an 06 750, which Bandit models will fit my bike?

Is the swap as simple as it looks?

BTW, I think they may have been correct. It does appear that BLACK is indeed the FASTEST color. R.O.R...R.I.P.M

    2001-2004 Bandit 600.

Yes, it is simple. Ne-oubile is going to come up with an alternative if you can hang in there a few months till he's healed up from surgery.

If that solution mirrored the entire chain adjustment assembly for the SV models, THAT would be cool....

Hmmmm : ok. Wonder if I should still pick up these $20 bandit ones in the meantime?

He is going to do a prototype based on some discussions we had, some photos I sent him, and the adjusters on Lou's bike...

It will allow you to adjust in and out, and hopefully won't require any cutting, drilling, tapping or welding.

Oh, heck yeah go for it.

The biggest difference is that the bandit uses a slightly larger diameter axle, so be extra careful when you snug everything up.

The SV adjusters are the same as the Kat adjusters, except they have the same diameter axle. I don't have a picture of one handy.... the only difference is that the SV swing arm isn't a square, it's got some other bits in the shape, so not a direct swap to the Kat.

What i intend on doing is to make a set that will require only drilling a couple of holes,in the swingarm, no welding. They will look like the ones i make now, only they will be able to pull and push the axle for chain adjustment. The bolt will also be recessed into the cover, for a smoother look. Once winter is here, and i can get my hands on a set of Kat carriages, i will get started.

Hmmmm had the same idea awhile back and have the ends made but stopped there, Any idea what they are going to go for?

Was going to use a socket head cap screw for the adjuster and button head socket cap screws for the retention of the adjuster end. Would still have to drill two small holes in the swingarm one upper and one lower.

SV adjusters are similiar to the bandit adjusters with the aluminum plate cap on the end. They use a hex head bolt that sits flush with the plate and screws into a nut on the internal assembly. The big thing I liked about them.... the screw is not center, but at the bottom (and screws past the axle below it allowing for more adjustment range).

SV600 adjusters will work on a Kat with a very slight modification. A very small amount of material needs to be sanded off the sides of the internals, and on one side of the lipp on the cap for them to fit (they will fit, just really tight) so that they don't bind up and stick a little.

They use a larger axle, so the axle hole diam is a little large. You can always cut it out and swap in the Kats if needed (what I was planning on doing).

I'll take some pics and post them up late tonight when I get home.

Hmmm... is that a newer gen? The ones I saw were the last generation... and they were just nicer versions of the ones on the kat.

2002 ish generation, which ever that is.

This shows the parts, but not extreamly clear that the bolt that screws in is at the bottom of the plates.

It looks like the part I swapped for a kat adjuster when dude rounded out the bolt... but he took the parts with him.

Here are some pics of Graham's chain adjusters. First off I know my rear tire is finished, I'm not riding with the tire like that. New tires will soon be on the way and the orangish shine on some pics are from the worklight. You can see how much thicker Graham's are from the stock ones. No comparison at all. http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ters%20Graham/
