Pretty much any oil cooled Suzuki motor will drop in, as mentioned by Doc. Very minimal modification needed to fit a different engine. If it's 1127 or 1157 cc (Kat/gsxr 1100 or bandit 1200) there needs to be a minor cut made on the cross brace under the tank. Otherwise, 1052 cc and down needs 0 modification. (Thanks teapot, wasn't aware of that, very few 1052 swaps done around here)
You need to get the right carbs to match the engine, and right exhaust, but that should be a given.

Also, there is no pre/post 1100 katana. It was only made 88-94. Any 1100 katana engine will drop into your post Kat. I've got one sitting around waiting transplant into my 98 750. Just haven't had the time to do it yet. (....also contemplating sending it to holeshot to have them rebuild it, port head, and maybe bore out to 1216cc, been slowly saving for that, but...it's slow)

The engine ive used is the. 86 to 88 short stroke gsxr motor the j/k model had the long stroke 1127 which then became water cooled in 94 .
I like the short stroke motor best its lighter revs harder and makes same bhp.
You can stick a B12 in your frame but there slower there slower than an 11 engine. Over hete in the uk all 1100 and 1200 engines are fetching silly money bout 500 to800 dollars just for engine no carbs starter or alternator.

Paying insurance premiums for a 600/750 but actually putting around on a 1100!
