  • Cheapest way to get new paintjob?

    Which is cheaper:
    1. Sending my bike to a shop to get painted (just take a guess what theyd charge)
    2. Buying the fairings from china off ebay like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-06...Q5fAccessories
    3. Simply do it myself.

I want it to look like number 2, but I want to know what would be the cheapest way to do it. I dont mind taking time, but I do need to keep on a strick budget

The cheapest way is always going to be to do the work yourself. As with most jobs, you are paying for the skill of the person doing the work. That being said, you get what you pay for! Painting is a tricky business and experience is well worth the investment of paying a professional. If you are more daring, adventuresome, and have the time/paitence to do the prep, paint, and clear yourself go for it. Lots of people have used rattle cans etc to paint their bikes with great results, but it looks like you want a multi color job with some fading. The fairing kit would be a fast way to get the job done, but I have heard that the fitment isn't always as precise as it could be.

What ever you decide...make sure you get those pics posted up and be safe riding out there!

Got a tweaked piece of plastic? Some roughed up paint? Here's the place to get some tips on repairing your Suzuki Katana.

The work that matters in a paint job, is the prep work. Spend your time doing that and you should be fine.

How much what costs? Doing the prep work? I think I bought a bunch of sand paper and some tack cloths for $20.

I spent $200 on paint and clear coat from Color-Rite, and $50 on an HVLP gun, and $30 on tarps from Harbor Freight.

I used an enamal based paint from tractor supply on mine. For all the paint and materials I spent about $70 but I already had a spray gun to spray it through.

$1500.00! Did that include a pair of lips? I think that's a tad bit high unless it's custom paint and some graphics.

They do do a great job, they only really do custom paint jobs. Heres what they did for my dad (check out the pictures) http://www.dragracecanada.com/media/...ofiles/148.asp

I dont really need all that, just some solid black, and the ability to add decals

15 isnt bad price for overall black w/ lettering on a previously painted bike especialy since you know their work and know they do top notch job.
Paint is the same as raking a neck or porting a head, you take it to the pros for their experience and craftsmenship.
If you decide" spray can" , would definitley use color rite.Never used their cans but have been using their products since they opened the doors.Very nice as long as you know what you're doing.

Well we actually stripped the bike already, my dads other friend who does custom vehicle painting is doing it. Im only getting it painted jet black, no decals or w/e for right now. Told my dad that I couldnt afford it right now, wouldnt for a while, but he decided to take the parts and drop it off anyway. What does that translate to me? My black baby is my christmas present. Woot woot.

Actually never raced them. The lisensure is a pain (my dad wont let any one drive them besides just going 35 mph on the track back to the pit unless you have a lisence). Never really had a big desire, that was always my dads thing. Cars i just find really boring, motorcycles though... awesome
