  • Before you buy an Action Camera...

Consider the fact that what gives you a rush and seems like a great fun ride is more exciting in your mind than on film lol.

I got a contour Roam 2 a few weeks ago and have not made a single interesting video yet. I didn't notice how much of a boring rider I am on film. Just thought it was funny. I don't go on the track or anything but I think I will just stick to recording mountain biking and whatever else I can come up with for now.

As for the camera itself I thought it was a pretty good buy. Waterproof without a case out of the box, slim design and cool mounting system compared to the go-pro. However, it does not have the same video quality as the go-pro and my only mechanical issue is that no matter what I can't get rid of the wind noise above 60 mph or even sometimes at low speed. I tried everything from encasing it in Styrofoam to putting bar tape over the mic hole. The only thing that apparently works is a product called a Dead-Cat-Dot...

Which I assume is a mustache for your camera....

This is all the video I have come up with so far. (Note I have some sort of ocd habit of resetting my turn signal button every two seconds.) Lol

Let me know what you think...

Btw... Can't we embed videos so you don't have to leave the site? Also make sure to go 720p or higher.

^^^ Oh shit I guess it doesn't show the embedding in the advanced preview never mind!

2:35 is Throttle cam and 3:38 is liftoff Lol

I've been using Contour for a year now, and I have had great success with it. Best thing for the wind, I've found, is some hockey tape over the mic. I've recorded some great, action packed vids (including my crash). Then again, I was raping the road, rather than riding. My vids from here out will be boring, I'm sure.

"..and have not made a single interesting video yet."

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. The scenes shot from the low angle are good! Put that same shot (maybe angled a little more to the left, a little less wheel, a little more scenery) on a road that is a bit more interesting and it would be stunning.

Around here I envision the video caught running up to Paradise from the east, through Steven's Canyon Road at Mt. Rainier. Would be 30-45 minutes of pure bike porn...

Where and how did you have the camera attached on the bike?

I used to have a ContourROAM (1) until the RAM mount broke and the camera went flying down the freeway. I replaced it with a DRIFT HD and I like it a lot.

Making a video "interesting" has as much to do with the editing as is does with the actual ride video. Music tends to add to the video as well if it is appropriate.

Here is a ride video I recently did for a group ride. I was drafted because their regular guy didn't make the ride and I was the only one with a camera. The song choice wasn't mine either...just following orders:

It was mounted with an adhesive mount on the lower fairing but far enough away from the heat.

I do know I have a video of a dumbass in a Camaro riding my ass at like 90mph. I know where most of the cops are so when I moved into the right lane I kinda motioned with my hands "SLOW DOWN".... but yeah 1/4 mile ahead you see his ass pulled over.

Nice vids! I was thinking of getting a Contour Roam 1, and want to know if the mounts that it comes bundled with mount up to your helmet and bike, or are other mounts needed?

Two quick questions. Can this be moved? I somehow manged top put it in the wrong spot and that's why I could never find it. Also, is it a better idea NOT to mount a cam on the instrument panel for fear of recording my speed and possibly getting me in deep shit down the road?

You did some great work on your videos. What editing software did you use? I thought the transitions were pretty slick.
