  • I was offered an SV650 in trade for my Katana...

    A little back ground:

My Katana has needed a fair bit of work in the maintenance department since I bought it. I've gotten to the point where I am frustrated with the on going expenses of the bike and I have it up for sale as a "feeler"

I was offered an '01 SV650s with 34K (km) on trade for my Katana. I've always liked the look of the SV's but I heard they are considerably slower than a 600 Kat. Does anyone have any input on this?

I like the idea of FI but i don't like the exhaust note of the twins. If you think it's a solid trade or not let me know, I am really on the fence.

    My Bike spec:
    01 600 Kat
    58K
needs front rim, tires, chain, sprockets (already ordered) running rich, but runs well enough to be reliable.

    SV650s:
    01
    34k
    has new tires and mvi
down side is his email address is "ruthless-9"

They aren't slower. They make better torque down low.

Id take it, I like the sv bikes.
90% of motorcycle forum members do not have a service manual for their bike.

As an SV owner and rider I'd take it too, although the FI bikes are a bit better. Look it over carefully first.

That's not true. There's a plethora of 250's, 500's, and Harelys that are slower than Kats.

I'm so very very torn, I don't want someone else's junk again. I know exactly what my Kat needs. This would be another trip down "pushing it home" lane again. Although if it's in great shape and maintained well it should be a no brainer.

Ill return his phone call and report back here with more details of the bike. Anyone know what to look out for on this year sv's?

In the end there are two things i want out of this trade.

                        1)reliability
                        2)better gas mileage

R/R upgrade on an 01 for most people. The notorious orange wire connector. Eastern beaver has a mosfet regulator and rectifier unit for $130. Yes the Sv650 has way more torque than a katana. Also make sure there are no knocks. Around 30k the valves need a little adjusting.

                            r/r upgrade?

I will check out the orange wire! thank you!

what would a fellow need a mosfet regulator and rectifier unit for?
