  • First leather jacket. Care tips?

Just picked up this jacket. It being my first leather jacket, ever, I am unaware if any extra care is needed like leather treatment stuff or anything of that nature.

Nice jacket, have been looking for something similar.

No experience with lethers, but I'm sure someone have some advice

Someone posted a similar story, knowing the car driver, is this the same?

I don't do much to my leathers... they seem to hold up well. I do however have a box of leather wipes (generally for car seats) that do a great job of cleaning and getting bugs off. Nice looking jacket!

Find a feed store and pick up a bottle of spray-on saddle soap. An occasional spritz and wipe does wonders. Added benefit is that saddle soap will have some silicon built in to help waterproof the leather. For the interior liner (if it has one) you can wipe it down with a dryer sheet to clean up the sweat funk. Works on helmets, too. My leather is 19 years old now and still going strong. Looks almost new except for some faded spots at the ends of the cuffs.

Good looking jacket by the way. Congrats on a lifetime investment.

I spray mine with a scotch gaurd silicone water proofing spray. helps keep dry in the rain and also repels bugs and makes for easy wipe off cleaning

                Beautiful jacket, man. I'm envious.

+1 on what steves linked. I use Lexol on my leather jacket once a month.

Steves in this picture you have 2 protectants.
                      Which should I use?

For my leathers I use the Lexol "ph" to clean them, (orange spray bottle) and the leather conditioner (brown bottle) to protect them, (also makes them look great). The blue bottle is an excellent product for vinyl, plastic, ect. Use it much the same as you would armor-all, which is NOT good on leather and should not be used for it.

For what it's worth, I would not use any of the lexol products on suede leather, per their instructions...

Once in a while I brush the bugs off. I use a five bristled brush that came attached to the end of my wrist.

Read the link. I use the Lexol stuff all the way. That can of Wilson's was also acceptable for waterproofing ONLY.
