  • gsx600f Katana engine cuts off when warm

    GSX600F Katana 1992
Hi, my engine cuts off after it gets warmed up. It starts eaisly & idles evenly but when I'm riding it randomly cuts off when I come to a stop. It will just cut out not stutter beforehand in any way. It will only restart with full choke after several attempts.
This can be really embarassing & annoying especially when at a roundabout or traffic lights not to mention angry car drivers. It only happens when I'm out riding not when parked & running.
Advice or cure needed as I really have developed a liking for this bike & don't want to get rid of it because it's unreliable, I'm hoping someone has an answer for this problem that wont cost too much but I will consider spending if I have to.
    Thanks.

You may be the victim of a weak sidestand spring. With the engine running and in gear try putting the sidestand down and see if it acts the same. (It should shut off.)

Electrical gremlins are a pain to find but they're usually easy fixes once you find them. Generally it's a weak battery, bad switch or corroded connection.

Hmmmm. Thanks Wild Bill, the battery & connections from it are good. As to where those wires go I haven't looked, so I'll start looking at my wires & terminals. Might also change side stand spring & switch.........if I can find them. Suppliers seem to be limited in the UK.
Is it possible to rewire if I find problematic wires or will I have to buy a new loom/s. What gauge wire can I use for replacements?
      Cheers.

You can always rewire. Just be sure you solder instead of using those stupid crimp connections. The stock wiring (barely adequate) is 16 and 18 ga. I do repairs with 14 ga or thicker, depending on the application.
