  • Monoshock for a pre kat 750

    Hello folks,
I have to replace the shock of my 1991 Katana 750. I already saw the wiki and a lot of old posts, but I still not sure of the year of the B12 and ZX14 direct replacements.
    I can buy a 2002 GSF1200 or a 2009 ZX14 rear shock.
I prefer the B12, it's cheaper, rebuildable, adjustabe and no mods needed.
What is your opinion about this?
I have no chance to return or change it as I will buy it overseas (I'm from Argentina).

    Thanks a lot!

I prefer the 2008+ R6 shock, minor mod to fit.

I forgot to mention that I'm streetfightering it, so I think its going to be great to make it's tail higher. I just not sure if those years are the ones I need

B12 would raise the rear a couple inches. R6 would drop it by 3/4" TMOD could set you up with the proper shock

Oil cooled 1200, not the water cooled 1250...

I'm not aware specifically of all models of B12 shocks, but pretty sure the 02 should work.

                Thanks for the reply Kreylyn!
I think that the B12 is not an option now. Tmod told me that the B12 shock should be modified, so I think I'll go for the ZX14 shock. But still I couldn't find info regarding the Zx14 year I should be looking for or if this needs to be modified too.

                any ideas?

The zx14, if it even fits, will need modifications as well.
The first gen 1200 shocks don't need any modifications to fit, however they are basically the same as your original, non-rebuildable and minimal adjustments.

Yesterday I found a post where someone says that the 2007 ZX14 is a direct swap. Maybe needing to move the battery, but no mods to the shock itself.
I'm going for the ZX14 shock.... is the same shock from 2006 to 2011.
Let`s see if ebay provide me with a good condition/price shock...

I just find ot again, it was loudnlow7484...

Remember that L'n'L's bike was a streetfighter, so that may mean more modification for you.

It seems you may not understand what direct swap means. If you have to modify anything on the bike for it to fit then it is not direct fit.
Changing things on the shock itself should be a given, often they need rebuilt as well as resprung for the correct weight and likely revalved as well.
A shock that needs general maintenance and new spring or whatever can still be a direct replacement. A shock that you need to move or modify the bike, or battery box, for is not.

Right, my mistake... I'm looking for a shock wich I don`t need to modify the shock itself or the bike frame. I think I'm ok moving the battery box or trivial stuff like that...
I hope that using the shock as it is, and as it's not so old, I can have a nice ride. I don't intend to take the bike to the track...

After this, I'll see what I need to do to the forks

If it were me I would upgrade the forks either 1st or at the same time.

I still didn't read much of forks upgrades. What would you do?
I know I should make them match with the rear.

Talk to Tmod, he will set you up with a good price on the proper springs for you, and he'll walk you through the installation.
