Ok, So i'm thinking of getting a 1200 motor and installing it in the spring, But reading up on the Bandit It is a 5 speed trans instead of 6.. Also the top speed (for the same year as my 00 kat 750) is only about 5 mph more.. So beside a little more oomph and low end grunt. What is the benefit of installing the Bandit engine??

if you are concerned with top speed ( how often to you go there?) you could change sprocket sizing but that will also change the bottom endBlood , its in you to give! http://www.blood.ca/

Well, im not really concerned with top speed, but I figured a bigger engine should go faster... lol, I really don't do top speed runs, but once in a blue moon. but I need a little better acceleration. Thats why im thinking 1200 engine, keep good gas mileage and still get up to speed faster..
Now i know i can search the install when it comes time, but besides the carbs, cooler and header, do I need anything else?2001 Kawasaki zx1100

You will need to do something about aspiration. The Bandit's airbox doesn't fit in the Kat's frame and the boots from the Kat's airbox are too small for the Bandit's carbs. Many have used K&N pods with success. I'd planned on taking the boots out of the Bandit's airbox and put them into the Kat's airbox.
You don't necessarily need an oil cooler. The dimensions of the Bandit's oil cooler are very different than the Kat's. In all but stop and go traffic, the Kat's cooler will be sufficient.
You might consider getting all the parts for a Bandit hydraulic clutch. The speedo sensor is in the right place for the Bandit's rotor and it is easily modified to accept a shifter stud. The Katana's sprocket cover will fit the Bandit motor, but its speedo sensor will be in the wrong spot.
I didn't complete my swap, but I did a lot of research while breaking apart my donor Bandit. There are several guys that have done it and lots have posted threads about it.
HemiKat is in the beginning stages of swapping (formerly) my B12 into his bike. Looking for a thread to pop up any day. :

Wouldn't it make more sense to look for a bandit motor BEFORE your engine chucks a rod? That way you can make some of the $ back......Any and all statements by Loudnlow7484 are merely his own opinions, and not necessarily the opinion of Katriders.com. anything will fit if you have enough grinding wheels and welding filler rods. Will it be cheap? doubtful.
Having owned a B12 and a 600 Kat, the difference is WAY more than top speed. The bandit would stomp the 600 kat in pretty much every situation. That thing was a hoot. Sure, my ZX10R would outrun it....but It won't rip the front wheel up at 2500 rpm like the bandit would.
Don't worry about the 5 speed thing....the B12 would do just fine with a 3 speed.

Many will tell you that the B12 motor isn't particularly great... but it DOES have the ability to be extensively tuned as well. The 1127 motor was the "fast one."-Steve
