turning the adjuster makes a difference it works. There are two problems. One is that it will idle smoothly until it is adjusted just below 2500 at which time it just shuts off. I can reset the idle and get it just below 2000, but it i wiggle the adjuster a little bit it will shut off. All started after my last fill up. I am almost done with this tank and have run a lot of Seafoam this afternoon and that seemed to help the idle a little, until I wiggle the adjuster.

I have a prospective buyer for it and no this has to happen. Runs great at all RPMs otherwise.

Sounds like an air or vac leak. The carbs are 99.99% closed at 2000 rpm then you wiggle the adjuster which closes off that .01% and stalls. Have you synced the carbs, replaced the filter?

Carbs were synched last year. Petcock and filter are new this year. I can't find any air or vacuum leaks. All started after last fill up.

Problem solved. After checking everything and finding nothing. I ran more Seafoam and fresh gas through. Eureka. I was able to set the idle without it stalling. It still gets a little erratic, but less so the more I run it.

How much seafoam is too much sea foam? Can you use too much?

Been fighting with this issue too. What I can't do with my limited toolbox is a correct
synchro. (89 750 also.) Runs fine but gas mileage is in the toilet at 34 mpg !!
I've had the carbs off three times, done the Berrymans dip, CAREFULLY reassembled,
and "the song remains the same". All hoses were replaced last year, tank etched and
clean, and multiple seafoam treatments. All stock jetting, intake and exhaust.
The butterflies are synched but still I'm off somewhere. No vacuum gauge for a true
synch so it has to go the paid wrench in the off season. Argh.

Ride 'em if ya got 'em,
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeap

Default 1990 kat11 wonky idle

I have a similar problem with a bike I'm working on.. bought it it only idled on choke and was leaking fuel. I cleaned the carbs and reset mix screws back to 1&7/8 & now it starts and runs high rpm on choke but once warm, off choke, the idle is rough under 1000 & if I turn up the idle it jumps up around 2500 rpm. And it is touchy in that it comes down to idle slow and sometimes hangs up there until I rev the motor. I know this sounds like an air leak..
I'm giving it fuel with a funnel. I checked for air leaks and loosened my throttle cable. I was gonna check the iidle screw assembly and adjust mix to 2.5 turns and then change the intake orings. The jets looked very new and carbs clean like someone was just in there but I cleaned everything anyway. D amm I should have looked close at that idle adjuster but at least I checked the bench sync and made sure they were not leaking... Hey, speaking of sync, these bst34SS appear the have bolts in ports to test vacume sync. Anyone have a line on the nipples & caps (Oh drat, I didn't check those bolts).

The carb sync tool I bought came with adapters that screw into those parts. Major bitch. I installed the adapters permenantly and ran pigtails from them. Sooooo much easier
