  • aftermarket fork brace

    Does anyone have an aftermarket fork brace on their bike?
    Are they for looks, lighter weight or front end stiffness?
    Does it help the positive feel of the front end?
    1989 GSXF 750 Katana.
    V&H supersport exhaust, ported head, GSXR cams
    Michelin PR2's, RT fork springs and R6 shock

    You would be better off getting RACETECH springs matched for your weight. My 750 quit dragging after that mod. Highly recommended.

      Forks flex. The OEM brace on the fender will reduce that some, so it's good to have at the minimal that part.

      The aftermarket clamp on to the fork braces will reduce that a lot.

      99% of the riders out there will never tell the difference with how they ride a Katana. If your not track riding at extreme performance, it's not really going to be noticeable.

      I completely agree you would see significantly better performance with simply keeping the stock brace, and upgrading the performance of the forks themselves with springs and emulators (assuming you have a 88-06 600cc or 750cc model kat.)

        I already have racetech springs with 15 w oil in them with an R6 rear shock.
        I might do emulators, but they are a bit pricey and require a full tear down of the forks too.
        I do push it pretty hard on twisty roads around here.
        If the HD fork brace (the one shown on the marketplace area on here: http://katriders.com/vb/showthread.php?t=133339) helps with front end stiffness. I was thinking of making one out of some 1/4" T6 aluminum I have on hand here.

          That one doesn't make the front end stiffer than the oem parts. It serves the same purpose, just a lot prettier.

          I thought you were talking about something like this...
