Default The thing at the top of the front sprocket cover?

Hello everyone,

1] When I first got my 92' Katana 750 I wanted to remove the oil cooler---a lot, desperately, I almost did. You fine people persuaded me otherwise, thank you.

2] I am going to change my sprockets and chain. See attached diagram below for reference. What is the thing at the top of the sprocket cover that fits into the hole between #29 and #27; to the left of #24/#23? And should I take that thing out of the sprocket cover as I work on my front sprocket?

(Sorry I couldn't search for info here since I have no idea what I'm asking about in the first place . . .)

Thanks for your help!

It's a little bracket that was there for the CA emmissions system. Not required. Doesn't hurt to leave or remove.
