I'll start with myself first, former Marine been riding bikes since I was 16. I've owned quite a few bikes, everything from cruisers to sport bikes, I always find myself going back to sport bikes. This is the first Suzuki sport bike I have owned (2002 katana 600). She has issues I'm trying to fix,.........former owner set this bike up for the 1/8 mile. She has sprockets, racing clutch, custom shorty (ridiciuiosly loud). The not so good (and current issies) wiring and cosmetic damage. Previous owner laid her down a few times, pulled the plate off (pulling the entire wire grouping with it). Now nothing works on gauge cluster, and I have to run a direct wire to the rear taillight. I'm good with cars but I just started working on bikes so I'm learning as I go. I could use any info on the bike, and how to keep it purring. As it is now, its super loud, very fast through 2-4, has no plastics, windshields, doesn't run when the tank gets too low (the metal bar showing), and huge wiring problems. She runs like a raped ape and is a long term project/daily driver.

Welcome!
You sound like a man in desperate need of a repair manual. Hit the Wiki link and search for "manual". There's a dead link or two for the post-bike manuals but I know at least one of them works. You've got a 98-02 bike but the manual for an 03-06 bike will work, too. The differences are pretty minor.
As for the electrical issues, from the sounds of it, I'd be willing to bet you're missing a whole lot of wire and connectors. You might be best served by hitting ebay for a whole new (used) wiring harness.
