  • My DIY Hi Rise Bars For Touring

I have read a lot of threads about people wanting taller bars cheap. So I am posting what I did on my bike, all tho my bike only uses a Kat front end.

I have an 89 GS500E with a 95 Kat 750 front end.At the time I did the conversion,I couldn't find a complete top plate and bars.I also couldn't find the 600 style clip ons either. So I bought a set of Honda CBR600F1/2 clip ons.Now that I am wanting to do more touring, instead of quick sprints through the local mountains,I decided I need a better option. My clip ons also hit the larger 05 GS500F tank that's installed.

This was my view before the DIY hi rise bars.Sorry my pics aren't to good. My camera is a cheapo and I shake pretty bad.

I grabbed a set of 92 GS500 handle bars, the Kat bar ends fit them.I marked the center and cut.

    Test fit them.

    To wide.

Scoot them in a smidge and install the controls.

Getting there.Install the Targa fairing, cap the inside bar ends, and adjust.

Lets take a look in the sun.Purdy close.

Waiting on some front brake parts so I can test'er out.

I found a thread about that on custom fighters a while back, when I asked about his setup i was informed the OP had passed away. but I heard it's not a bad way to go.

I am sorry to hear the fellow passed.Do you have a link to that post by chance?I am the first person that I have seen do it this way.If my weak mind can think this up,I'm sure there are plenty of others that are doing it.

That's a great idea! Toss some shot or bar snakes in them to soak up vibration and check to make sure turning the bars side to side doesn't change engine rpm. (If it does then you may need a longer throttle and choke cable.)

                That is a brilliant mod!

I wish I'd seen that before I spent a few hundred bucks on my bar riser mod.
