I just use a slide rule (vernier caliper) so I can change the distance to what I want

And make sure needle jet and jet needle are not worn (ovaled) or grooved

Hmm just remembered this,, odd indeed! have heard similar issues with coils or plugs breaking down not sure how you would check them apart from measuring resistance or trying a known set if you can beg borrow a set.

Do you still have the 750 swapping them over could check it out they are both the same
Poor running / low power under 5k certainly could be a poor connection for the plug boots, or arcing causing a weak spark.

A general check on that is checking power to the coils (orange /white line wires) have minimal 11v, pull the plug wires and check the caps are on the wires tight, the wires are not hard or unflexible. If the ends where the caps plug on are hard, or if the caps will pull off... clip back 1/2" to 1" of wire back to soft flexible, and screw the boots back on. Also you can run the bike wtih the tank off the bike in the dark/ night time... and check for any stray arcing from plug boots in the wells or on the wires.

So I ordered the float adjustment tool. I watched the video on here that says to adjust the floats in the sweet spot (center).
The service manual says to have the carbs flat on the table.

Which is correct??
I have them adjusted with the carbs flat on the table. I havenít installed them yet...

Post kat carbs need to be tilted back to just when the float pin just touches the float arm. Download carbs 102 from the wiki, it will show you how.

Plugs are gapped and are correct..

I adjusted the float height to the video instead of the service manual and that didnít help much..

Does this happen at all throttle positions or just WOT? If you accelerate gently instead of WOT does it make a difference?

Are the needles in the carbs shimmed? My stock needles were shimmed when I got my bike and it did something similar, but it was also dumping black smoke (rich) out the exhaust. Removed the shims that the PO had put in there and it fixed the issue.

However, I'm not 100% sure I'm convinced you have a carb issue.

Is it possible to grab another set of coils from a good running bike to try out?

Does it smoke or stink rich when it does this? Popping and sputtering are usually lean in my experience. Any way you can upload a video?

Itís been a long time since Iíve uploaded anything here.
Donít I upload through photobucket and the share the link?

I donít have a spare set of coils to try..
I guess I could buy a set.

And it spits, sputters, pops, and blows smoke below 5k rpm.
It runs ok above 5k
