On is off when the motor is not running.

Take a fuel line off the petcock . Turn the knob until fuel flows . That position will be prime . Keep a rag handy , cause you'll get some gas on ya .

Yes, as long as it's not on 'prime.'

No, that should not cause an extremely rich condition. It _might_ flood it if you let it sit a while though.

Unless gas is coming out the vacuum connection... Then all bets are off.

Sorry I am really confused, everytime i get near my kat i smell gas.. my petcock stays on the "RES" option.. does that mean the gas is off?

i want to know how to turn it off, since its a good idea when you turn your bike off to cut the fuel and let the carbs drain, and essentially the bike "stalls".

                        ?

"On" or "res" is also "off" when the bike's not running . There IS no dedicated off setting . The running engine is what makes the petcock open and send out the fuel . When the engine's not running , it's automaticaly off , unless it's on "pri" or messed-up .

not sure to be ticked off or not

Went to get the bike during lunch today. Starter turned over twice and then sounded like the motor locked. Stayed that way. Sounded like it hydra-locked .... and since I had been reading this post, I checked the petcock. It was on "Pri" .... I've owned the bike for going on three months now, and I've never moved the thing. Either it has been on "Pri" the whole time and this is the first time it's filled the cylinder with fuel, OR somebody screwed with it/me.

After I pushed it in gear, it fired right up.

Could it have been all this time? With it on, can it lock the motor like I said? It smelled like gasoline heavy in the garage, something I have not noticed before. I personally think somebody turned the petcock recently .... I've been parked in places where it could be screwed with

                              Looking for opinions, thanks
